Week 8

Lecture Summary
In today's lecture we learnt about presentation strategies. We had to watch a video and create ten tips for a good presentation. We were then shown a practitioner's point of view. They said the presentation contains compelling data that will survive scrutiny after the presentation is over, the presenter makes an impression congruent with the data and provides the emotional connection that is crucial to the message's success.

They types of self contained presentation there can be are:
Web-Page
CD-ROM
Video
Written Presentation:
Essay
Paper
and oral presentations.

A visual message is not enough as an audience only remembers:
10% of what they see
25% of what they see and hear
40% of what they see, hear and write down
and 60% of what they experience interactively

To have a well structure presentation you need to have an introduction, body and conclusion.
The introduction should include attention getter's, thesis statement, audience adaption, credibility statement, preview and a transition to the body.

The body should contain main ideas, organization patterns, connective devices and references to outside research.

The conclusion should contain a reinforcement to the thesis, review the main points and close the argument effectively.

To prepare for a presentation you should have professional appearance, avoid hand-written or overheads, always have a backup and rehearse your talk.

When using PowerPoint stick to the principle KISS, meaning Keep It Simple Stupid. So do not use PowerPoint as your main point of delivery.

Practice
State the Problem
Relate to the audience

Workshop two
